PRS Fall Voyagers 2022
**Registration is closed, except for Floor Hockey.

The fall Voyagers after-school enrichment program will kick off the week of October 3rd and will run for six sessions. Voyagers is a great way to supplement your child’s education with fun, interesting, and inspirational classes while raising money for the PTO. All classes begin right after school, and pick-up is at 3:40pm (exc. golf, see details below).

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration will begin on Sunday, September 25th at 5 pm. At that time, you will find live links under each class description on this page that will take you to our registration page. If you try to sign up for a class and it is full, please send an email to [email protected] to be put on a waitlist. Students may sign up for multiple classes. Registration will close on Thursday, September 29th at 5pm.

Absentee policy
- If your child is not able to attend class on a given day ​please notify the office and send an email to Mikayla Pagnini at [email protected] prior to 2:00pm​ on the day of class.
-​ If an instructor is absent​, parents will be notified by telephone/email as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. ​If we are unable to reach you,​ the student will be in the school office until a parent can be reached. The class will be rescheduled based on a day that is convenient for the majority of students and the instructor.
- There are no make-­up days for student absences.
- Make up classes: If a class can not meet due to rain/weather, the instructor will be in touch to schedule a make up class.

Safety and pick up procedures - All students meet in the PRS cafeteria after school for attendance and to be met by the class instructor. ­Pick-up for all classes is in the PRS front entrance by parents/guardians at 3:40pm sharp (except for Garden Club - please pick up at the PRS Garden). You may provide a note to the instructor if your child is to walk home or be dismissed to someone other than a parent. Instructors will pass the notes along to the office. CHESS

Students will learn basic strategy and moves as they learn or sharpen their chess playing skills!

Farzad Abdi is a National Master in chess and a member of the Boylston Club in Cambridge. He has taught in Hingham for many years through the Hingham Chess Club. An assistant will also help in this class.

BAKING

In this class we will creating yummy treats while also learning about math, science, teamwork, and recipe /label reading. **Please note, this is a baking class that will involve using common allergens such as gluten and dairy. All baked goods must be consumed after leaving class.

Instructor: Bo Hamilton - I am a local Hingham mom, I work in the Foster Elementary kitchen and I have two kiddos that are 10 & 12 that go to HPS. I am a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and hold a degree in Culinary Arts. My passions are my family and food. I've enjoyed teaching my children how to bake and cook so much that it led me to want to share this experience with others.

CRAFTS GALORE & MORE

Come join in the fun this Fall!! Everyone will make a craft each week! Decorating pumpkins, clay, designing your own shirt or scrunchy plus more! Each week, after completing the craft, you will work on your very own Sticker Story using themed stickers and drawing! (Writing is optional.) 

Instructor: Linda Harned - I am a Kindergarten Para (4th yr at PRS). I have over 25 years experience working with children. Kids might have also seen me at the Breakfast Program or After School Tutoring. I also taught at the Summer Academy. I LOVE doing crafts with children. I have 3 grown kids of my own and 4 granddaughters!

BOARD GAME & LEGO CLUB

Board Game Club focuses on teaching children good sportsmanship and strategic thinking through a variety of board games. This session is designed for any play level and experience level. Children will play board games such as Monopoly, Trouble, Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Guess Who, and many more! We'll also do Lego challenges!

TENNIS

This class is for the beginner or intermediate beginner tennis player. We will introduce and practice all the basic tennis strokes (forehand, backhand, volley, and serve) using a variety of fun tennis drills and games. **Participants must supply their own tennis racquet (25-26 inch) and 2 cans of tennis balls.

Instructor: A former collegiate tennis player, Kathryn Shroff is a certified tennis professional with over 20 years experience working with kids and adults of all abilities. She has taught throughout the US (and even overseas!) and has served as the Director of Junior Tennis at the largest indoor tennis club in the country. Kathryn is a PRS mom to Jonah (5th grade) and Oliver (3rd grade).

POKEMON PALOOZA

If you are a Pokemon fan, this class is for you! Bring your Pokemon cards from home and trade them with your friends! Learn how to play Pokemon Battle games. Discuss the Pokemon of the Week. You will also play Pokemon Trivia, Bingo and make your own Pokemon Cards! At the end of each class, you will receive new playing cards. Come join the fun!

Come learn the fundamentals of golf while enjoying some beautiful fall weather on the course! **Participants must bring own golf clubs and provide own transportation to/from SSCC.

Instructor: Kristen McCarthy has taught golf lessons for 2 Years at South Shore Country Club, specializing in kids' and women's classes. Kristen is a high school teacher in North Quincy and brings her excellent communication and teaching skills to the golf course, where kids have a blast while learning the game.

Get outside for some good old fashioned jogging! Learn about stretching, warm-ups and cool downs. Chat and make new friends as you get your heart rate going!

DRUM JAM!

Everyone enjoys either shaking, scraping or striking something to create a sound (definition of percussion) and that is what we will do in Drum Jam. We will learn rhythms from around the world, and play them on the many instruments in the percussion family. …and a little bit of singing might resonate through the hallways. All instruments are provided and all you will need is to get ready for some drum fun.

Instructor: Ed Sorrentino, South Shore Conservatory (SSC) Percussion Department Chair, and Jazz/Rock/Pop Department Chair., received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Berklee College of Music. In addition to being a percussion instructor at SSC and Foxboro High School, Ed is a certified drum circle facilitator, trained Health RHYTHMS group empowerment drumming facilitator, and Health RHYTHMS adolescent protocol facilitator who enjoys working with many diverse populations. He has been recognized for his innovative work with adults and children with disabilities. He has been with South Shore Conservatory since 1979.

This class will incorporate some of the students’ favorite games from gym class… Capture the Flag, Star Wars, Parachute Games, and more! We will have a warm-up, game, and cool down! A fun time for all!

Instructor: Vin Moran-  PRS dad who has been a substitute teacher in Hingham and a softball coach for many years will get your kids moving!

GARDEN CLUB

Join the Voyager’s Garden & Nature Club on Thursday afternoons! We will plant autumn seeds, stir the compost, dig in the dirt to find bugs and worms, as well as explore surrounding nature to see how other plants and animals connect to our gardens. There might even be some fresh veggies from YOUR school garden to nibble on along the way.

Instructor: Bruce Frost is the Director of Education and an educator for the Friends of Holly Hill Farm and oversees all education programs. Prior to working with FHHF, Bruce was an upper elementary teacher and outdoor classroom coordinator at the Inly School (Montessori) for 7 years, fourth-grade teacher at South River School for 15 years, and third- and fourth-grade teacher at the Harrington School (Cambridge) for 1 year. He also worked in children’s publishing for 8 years.

SKATEBOARDING

Can’t wait to break out your board? Come learn the basics, as well as advanced, skateboarding techniques with the riders from Technical Skate shop. In this class, we will be covering safety, cooperation and all the components of skateboarding. The classes will take place outside and Technical will be providing some of the skateboarding obstacles. Learn how to skateboard or sharpen your skill. **Participants must supply their own skateboard, helmet, elbow and kneepads.
