PRS Winter Voyagers 2023
Registration for Winter Voyagers is now closed. If you have signed up for a class and still need to make a payment,  you may pay by check to "PRS PTO" in your child's folder, or by venmo @PlymouthRiverSchoolPTO

The winter Voyagers after-school enrichment program will kick off the week of January 9 and will run for six sessions. Voyagers is a great way to supplement your child’s education with fun, interesting, and inspirational classes while raising money for the PTO. All classes begin right after school, and pick-up is at 3:40pm.

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration will begin on Sunday, December 11 at 5 pm. At that time, you will find a link at the top of this page that will take you to our registration page. If you try to sign up for a class and it is full, please follow the instructions to fill out a waitlist form.  Students may sign up for multiple classes. Registration will close on Friday, December 16th at 5pm.

Absentee policy
- If your child is not able to attend class on a given day ​please notify the office and send an email to Mikayla Pagnini at [email protected] prior to 2:00pm​ on the day of class.
-​ If an instructor is absent​, parents will be notified by telephone/email as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. ​If we are unable to reach you,​ the student will be in the school office until a parent can be reached. The class will be rescheduled based on a day that is convenient for the majority of students and the instructor.
- There are no make-­up days for student absences.
- Make up classes: If a class can not meet due to rain/weather, the instructor will be in touch to schedule a make up class.

Safety and pick up procedures - All students meet in the PRS gym after school for attendance and to be met by the class instructor. ­Pick-up for all classes is at the gym doors at 3:40pm sharp. Please provide a note to the instructor if your child is to walk home or be dismissed to someone other than a parent. Instructors will pass the notes along to the office.

CHESS
Mondays

All Grades

Students will learn basic strategy and moves as they learn or sharpen their chess playing skills!

Farzad Abdi is a National Master in chess and a member of the Boylston Club in Cambridge. He has taught in Hingham for many years through the Hingham Chess Club. An assistant will also help in this class.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
Mondays

$90 + $5 supplies fee
Grades K-2

Students will have the opportunity to learn and perform a variety of Readers Theater Scripts . Children will be assigned different roles-everyone will have a chance to be the star of the play (if desired). Students will use props to make the script come alive! Children will also be exposed to some general theater terms such as blocking a scene, attending a table read, etc. Come join the fun at our new Voyagers Acting Club!

Instructors: Ellen Sheil and Linda Harned. Linda Harned is a K paraeducator at PRS and Ellen Sheil is a fifth grade paraeducator at PRS.

BAKING will unfortunately not be offered this session.

GYM TIME FAVORITES
Mondays

Grades 4-5

This class will incorporate some of the students’ favorite games from gym class… Capture the Flag, Star Wars, Parachute Games, and more! We will have a warm-up, game, and cool down! A fun time for all!

Instructor: Vin Moran-  PRS dad who has been a substitute teacher in Hingham and a softball coach for many years will get your kids moving!

CRAFTS GALORE & MORE
Tuesdays

$90 + $10 supplies fee
Grades K-2 (but flexible)

Students will make a craft each week. If it dries, they will bring it home. They will receive their own supply bag. After they finish their craft, they have a choice of creating a book, greeting cards or book markers for themselves or as a gift for someone. Some crafts we will make are clay figures, tote bags, Valentine wreaths, decorate your own water bottle etc.

Instructor: Linda Harned - I am a Kindergarten Para (4th yr at PRS). I have over 25 years experience working with children. Kids might have also seen me at the Breakfast Program or After School Tutoring. I also taught at the Summer Academy. I LOVE doing crafts with children. I have 3 grown kids of my own and 4 granddaughters!

POKEMON PALOOZA
Tuesdays

$90 + $15 supplies fee
Grades K-2

Tired of hiding your Pokemon Cards in your backpack? Then come join the Pokemon Club where we chat about all things Pokemon, and trade Pokemon cards with friends! Bring your Pokemon cards from home and trade cards with your classmates. Instructor will also provide new Pokemon cards for each student.

FRIENDSHIP BRACELET CLUB
Wednesdays

$90 + $5 activities fee
Grades 3-5

Students will learn to make beautiful bracelets that feature different patterns. They will have fun chatting and getting to know one other!

Instructor: Mrs. Dunphy is the PRS Library Teacher and has always been interested in fostering connections amongst her students. She learned how to make friendship bracelets when she was a chaperon for teens on a summer service trip. Aside from learning different patterns and color blends, she noticed that the craft also fostered comfortable conversation and friendship.

PAINT A DISNEY MURAL
Wednesdays

Students will have the opportunity to help Miss Wragg create and paint a Disney mural that we will then donate to the school. Walt Disney's famous quote "If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It" will be a main focus and discussion point throughout each session.

Instructor: Shannon Wragg. Hello! My name is Shannon Wragg. I am a fifth grade teacher here at PRS. This is my 7th year teaching elementary school students. I've taught 1st and 3rd grade before too! I grew up on Cape Cod and lived there until this past year! I recently moved to Pembroke and I am loving my new routine here so far. My students know about my love for art. When I'm not teaching, I'm an artist. I've painted many different things including three Disney murals, endless amounts of pet portraits and lots more. My students also know about my love for Disney movies. So, I've decided to create a space where we can come together and collaborate on a Disney mural that we can eventually donate to our very own school! "If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It!"

BOARD GAME & LEGO CLUB

Board Game Club focuses on teaching children good sportsmanship and strategic thinking through a variety of board games. This session is designed for any play level and experience level. Children will play board games such as Monopoly, Trouble, Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Guess Who, and many more! We'll also do Lego challenges!

PODCASTING

Do you have a favorite podcast to listen to? In this program, you’ll have the chance to go behind the scenes to make your own! Students will work together to choose a topic, script each episode, record and produce a five episode podcast.

Instructor: Mrs. Stahl-Bryant is the Computer Science teacher at PRS. She enjoys a variety of activities outside of computers including skiing, reading, painting and taking walks with her dog Winter! She also listens to podcasts every day and is excited to offer a new style of creativity. 

BRUINS ACADEMY
Fridays

Grades 3-4

Boston Bruins Academy Come learn about the sport of hockey and the Boston Bruins! We will be looking at the math, science, writing, and history involved with running the team. Students will learn about various statistics, what it takes to run an ice hockey arena, the lively language involved with calling the game, and the history of the team and how it pertains to the city of Boston. 

Instructor: Mrs. Kilban has been a teacher at PRS for 27 years. In addition to teaching at PRS she works with the Boston Bruins to develop supplemental curriculum materials for schools throughout New England incorporating the sport of hockey, and the Bruins, into lesson plans that align with the common core standards.
